I think I made a boo boo

Question
I just put down Scott's turf builder with crabgrass
preventer.  I also have to reseed all the bare spots.  It
says that It will prevent grass seed from growing.  Is
there any way around this.  (Extra top soil, peat moss or
anything).  Its about a 1400 Square feet area that I have
to re seed.  Or will the fertilizer posibly bring back the
lawn or is there any thing else I could do to fill in all
the ugly looking dead spots.  Could it be a grub worm or
some problem why the grass is dead in that area.  Please
help     thank you so much for your time

Answer
The weed control part of the product prevents root growth on emerging seedlings. It will do nothing to emerged plants. Applying topsoil, traffic, any kind of cultivation, can all cause the product to not work.
As for reseeding the bare spots, I would not do it until after the rainy season. The 'summer' heat and rains will combine to break down the product.
I cannot even guess as to why the grass has died in any area of your lawn. Causes of death are usually "cultural" (something you did or did not); 'biological' (pests or diseases); "environmental" (weather, spills, traffic etc.).
You know the history in relation to these causes and you can come up with a fairly accurate diagnosis.
