planting

Question
I had a new septic system/leaching field installed which cleared out and killed many large oaks and other trees and shrubs.  I would like to try to replant as the yard looks very bare. Most of the trees were over 40 years old so I know it will not be the same in my lifetime. I would like to know if I plant on top of the leaching field will the roots of the trees and/or shrubs cause a problem to the leaching fields.  It is full sun now with everything gone.

Joy:
I hate to ruin your day but you CAN NOT plant trees and shrubs over your leach field at all. Yes they will ruin it and quickly. Only grass, small groundcovers and perennials or gravel or mulch are recommended within 15 to 20 feet of the leach field.

Try a meadow of grass and wild flowers...

Have a good weekend and sorry I could not tell you what you probably wanted to hear.
