Green scaly stuff on trees and bushes

Question
Hi Jonathan,  I have citrus trees, gardenia bushes and a fichus that are dying because of some kind of green scale that is growing on them...Also, our tomato plants are near the fichus, our monster tomato plant that we call him is also dying (he is ten feet tall and eight feet wide, it is also affecting our Roma tomatoes, and our cherry tomatoes, but this green scale looking stuff is on everything....I am a naturalist and do not believe in insecticides but I don't want my plants to keep dying....Please Help....I can't find any info or pics that look like what I am battling with my plants and I am afraid it is going to spread to my young trees and my seedlings.  Thank You,  Robyn

Answer
Hi Robyn

Sounds like it could be Coccus viridis

SEE: http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=it&q=Coccus%20viridison%20citrus&um=1&ie=UT...

If it is then try a strong paraffin oil solution (it's totally organic) and, if there are ants present, try controlling these as they protect and benefit the insect.

Let me know how it goes

Kind regards
