swampy area

Question
I would like to make my swampy back area a yard again like it used to be. It is very wet during the winter and damp during the summer. what would be a good way to do this? Do I put in some kind of drainage? It is all flat at the bottom of a hill. It is very ineven because my neigborused to use it for his horses, but I do not want to do that any more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Dee

Answer
Hello:

I would suggest field drainage (a system of perforated pipes) perhaps combined with interception ditches on the hill. Dewatering wells could also supplement the field drainage.
