when to prune in Florida

Question
I planted a butterfly garden this past spring and I do not know if I should prune it back for more blooms.  I have plumbago bushes and pintas. ( think that is what they are called)  These had beautiful blooms all summer untill our first frost (last week).  The plumbagos are planted 3 ft apart in the front beds with the pintas 2 ft apart in front of them.  It gives me a blue background with bold dark pink blooms in front.  I containerized bright yellow Lantana (so they wouldn't take over the entire bed) to give more color.  When should I prune these back - or should I? I live in central Florida - Ocala to be exact.  I am not sure what zone this is because I've been told that the frost / freeze line runs through the middle of the county.  Citrus will not grow at my home because the temps here drop too low, but will grow at my parents home 40 miles to the southeast.
Thanks,
Terri

Answer
Terri,

If they were here, I'd wait till the spring growth was just about to start or had just barely started.   I'd prune the Lantana hard, cutting it way back, and especially taking out the oldest woodier stems.  I'd cut the dead out of the Plumbago, which I'd spot as the stuff not showing spring growth.  With your milder climate I don't know if you have a clear break between one seasons growth and the next.

Hope this helps.
Mark

ps...have you tried Buddleia?
