Drainage problems.

Question
We have an inground swimming pool in the back yard with an attached sidebath (hot tub that is inground and drains into the pool).  The property beyond is about a metre higher than our property and drains towards our house rather than towards the road.  Went to the city and this no longer conforms to standards but was built before the law came into effect so they cannot be forced to conform.  Every spring, due to the thaw, flooding occurs causing the hot tub to actually lift up with the water, becoming buoyant from the water forming underground.  Is there any solution to this problem or must I have a crew come in every spring to dig and replace the hot tub?  Thank you!

Answer
Thank you for your e-mail. Sorry to hear about the problem you are having. The only thing I can think of to do without seeing the set-up you have is install some drains several feet before the hot tub. This way you can have the water rerouted to the street. You can use 3" or 4" drain pipe and install some basins long the way. You could also install a french drain which would work very well. I hope I was some help. Feel free to write again. Thanks Bill
