weeds in walkway

Question
Hi Marc, thanks for volunteering.  2 years ago I put in a brick walkway from my driveway to my back steps.  It looks great, but every type of weed is popping up in every crack.  I followed the directions ?4 inches of gravel, weed barrier, 1 inch of sand & filled the cracks with sand.  I put so much work in this & now it looks terrible.  What should I do?  Appreciate any tips.

Answer
We don't have such fertile soil here, but if you are looking for a total weed killer, try searching on Shopzilla.com, pricegrabber.com, or Froogle.com.

Just type in "Weed killer" or "vegetation killer" and stand back!  Caution: they will kill EVERYTHING green!  Different states have varied regulations in their use, so if you live near a stream, lake, or wetland, use caution and read the label.

We had a frightful weed problem when we had a gravel driveway, lots of weed seeds, and copious rains...you could almost hear them growing, until we layed down a totally serilizing weed killer: end of problem (for one year).  It may take a few years worth of applications.

If you ever want anything to grow between the cracks (like moss or tyme), then the only other solution is hand-weeding.
