Corner Lot Privacy

Question
I live in the New Orleans area and just bought a home on a corner lot, with a side yard. I wanted to replace the current chainlink fence with a 6 ft wood version, however, zoning says no. So I want to plant hedges that will do the job. I want something that will grow FAST and is as solid as possible. I am also open to other suggestions. The only other option I have (zoning wise) is to put up a wooden fence that will cut my yard by a third due to a sight triangle rule, but not sure how to use the space that would be on the other side of the fence, by the street. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Podocarpus, viburnum spp., hicks yew, ligustrum, etc will all grow fast and make nice hedges. If you go with corner fence, just landscape the outside corner nicely with low growing plants. Starting with lowest near the street and  stepping up towards the fence.

Good Luck
