Watering.

Question
My wife and I planted a 4' Hollywood Juniper tree and I would like to know if I'm watering it the right way. I live near Tucson AZ. and the temperature is already approaching 90 degress in the late afternoon. Using a pie pan and a 1/2" soaker hose I am watering at the rate of 2 quarts per hour directly to the root ball. I had success with an Orange tree using this method for 2 hours twice a week. Would I be over watering the Juniper if I did this method for 2 hours every third day until established?

Answer
Hey, Ric.

If your temperatures stay where they are, then you probably won't be overwatering the juniper. However, I'm not sure you could overwater those anyway unless you just planted it in a swamp. They are pretty adaptable, so if you were successful with an orange tree, you should be okay with the juniper. Keep an eye out for the lower branches or needles turning yellow or brown; that will indicate that it's getting too much water.
