Railway Ties

Question
We have railway ties graduated as a retaining wall.  They are very secure and no rot.  Nothing wrong with them except they are ugly.  What can we do to make them look nicer.  We thought of plants covering them, but don't have time before our family reunion.

Answer
Hey, Rick.

If you're looking for a quick fix, consider some flower bowls and hanging baskets. I used to install a hanger on the sides of the retaining wall and then hang baskets that had long, flowing plants in them, such as ivy, string of pearls, vining geranium, and verbena. You can also use plants with a large number of blooms, or large blooms, such as petunias, periwinkle, and the like.
