Getting started

Question
Hi Bill,
My garden is an overgrown wilderness. I would like to grow vegetables but I don't know where to begin. I live in England, can you please give me instructions on useful steps I can take at this time of year?
Thanks,
JonnyD

Answer
Hi Jonny, I would start with raised beds, which are stones or boards or old tires or anything that will hold about 12 inches of soil. make the beds about as far wide as you can reach. if you have about 3 months until killing frost in your area you can get a crop of beans or lettuce or beets or tomatoes for example. fill the beds with good loam soil and keep it watered because raised beds dry faster. good luck!
