How to Ripen Tomatoes

Question
i live in orlando and have green tomato's currently growing. before the next frost i ll need to pick them and i m sure they will still be green. what is the best way to ripen them? i ve heard to put them in a brown bag and put them under the bed or to put them in a window sill with low light... any ideas? your help would be greatly appreciated. please email me back.. [email protected]      thank you. Ira and Lisa

Answer
Ira, the best method I have found is to simply wrap each of them individually in newspaper, and store them in a cool, dry location such as your basement. After about 7-10 days, start checking them every few days for ripening.

Keep in mind, however, that ripening tomatoes in this or any other manner is never as rewarding as allowing them to ripen naturally on the vine. But I still believe that they are better than anything you can buy in the supermarket.

Thanks for writing, and the best of luck.

Regards,

Mike
