can you grow sweet potates in southern Minnesota

Dear Beth,
You could try it, but sweet potatoes need a longer growing season than white potatoes. Sweet potatoes thrive quite well in the southern states. I think it would be the exception, rather than the rule to be able to raise sweet potatoes in the north. Perhaps you could be somewhat successful if you started them early, indoors and set out plants in the spring.
