Wild Onions-Leeks or Shallots?

Question
I have something growing wild in my garden that I'm pretty sure is of the onion variety, and it does have a bit of onion smell, but the bulbs are fairly small, no plant has appeared at the top, the stems are flat and do get rather wide, but unlike shallots have no white portion showing above ground yet (like pictures I've seen).  I remember wild onions growing around a lake my family used to camp on and how good they smelled, but never saw the bulbs.  If these are onions, I would like to snip them and freeze them after soaking to rid them of bugs.

Answer
Linda-
You don't say where you live, but they sound like ramps - wild leeks. Could also be wild garlic - I have some myself this year.

If you are going to freeze them I wouldn't soak them. do they even have bugs? You can peel off the outermost layer and that should leave you with clean onions. You will lose a lot of flavor in the freezer.
