Pumpkin

Question
I have a pumpkin seedling that was about 5 " tall. By accident, I broke the stem, about 1/4 up the stem. Can I just remove the stem from there and will it grow again? Thanks

Answer
Oh, I hate it when that happens! You can do two things to try to save your seedling:

1. You can try removing the stem, and keep watering your plant. Maybe it will form new foliage, but I wouldn't bet on it.

2. Since it sounds like the stem hasn't broken completely, you could try gently bending the stem so that the broken area is in contact with the surface of the soil. Bury the broken area with a bit of soil. If the break is too low down on the stem to be able to bend it over, just mound up soil around the break. Hopefully, this area will root and your plant will be saved.

Neither of these methods are a guarantee, but I'd give option #2 the better chance of success.

Good luck! Let me know how it turns out.
