snapdragon

Question
Hi!
I bought some beautiful snapdragons a couple weeks ago that have since lost their blooms.  What's the best/fastest way to get them to bloom again?  Should I pinch off the blooms that have died?
Thanks,
Tamsen

Answer
Yes, they will rebloom if the old blooms are removed. Be careful to only take off the old flowers. I would use shears to keep from tearing the stem and damaging the flower buds below the old flower.

In my area the plants are going dormant for the winter. If you live in a warm climate, you will probably get blooms all winter until the heat of summer. It has been my observation that Snapdragons are unfortunately, short lived plants. They will bloom nicely the first year, be spectacular the second year, and not very interesting the third year. I usually grow them for the second year and then replace them. So if your plants don't preform for you later on, it is nothing you have done, it is the plants short life.
