bonsai

Question
Hi , i have an outdoor ficus bonsai which i have just recently purchased, i feed  once every 2 weeks as instructed , and water every day , also spraying the bark, to keep moist. The problem is the leaves have all dropped off, but there are signs of green shoots appearing.
I live in cyprus , and although hot i take care  not too leave the tree in too sunny a position with some shelter/shade offering protection. We recently left for a holiday and wondered if our help didnt water the tree during this period ?

Answer
Hi Gary,

Ficus trees are famous for losing their leaves, especially when moved. It's possible that you're tree wasn't watered while you were on vacation, but if it's growing new shoots, it should be fine. In fact, are you sure that watering your tree everyday is not too much. You do not want the soil to dry out, but you do not want to over water the tree either. The hot weather in Cyprus may require daily watering, but make sure that the tree needs the water. Also, do not fertilize a tree if it is stressed. If your tree is losing it's leaves, skip one or two fertilizing schedules. Wait until the tree looks healthy before fertilizing again.

I hope the helps.
