Snow bush (Breynia disticha 'Roseo-picta') BRAY-nee-ah DISS-tih-kah Synonyms:  'Roseopicta' Genus:  Breynia The white- and pink-mottled leaves of 'Roseo-picta' make it appear as if the plant has been snowed upon, even though it is a tropical plant. It is an evergreen shrub growing to 3 feet or more with pink and red stems in zigzagged formation. Native to Pacific islands, it is grown as an indoor plant or perennial, or as an annual in cooler climates. The tiny flowers go generally unnoticed. Do not allow the soil to dry out, as leaf drop will occur. Noteworthy Characteristics:  Appears to be frosted or snowed upon. Compact size makes it good for container plantings. Care:  In the garden, grow in fertile soil and partial or light dappled shade, especially in the hot summer months, and consistently moist soil. Pinch out stem tips when young to promote branching growth. Indoors, grow in bright filtered light with ample water during the growing season. Fertilize monthly. Water sparingly in winter. Propagation:  Root softwood cuttings in summer with bottom heat. Problems:  If grown indoors, spider mites, whiteflies, and aphids may be problems.
