Minor Tree Trimming

Minor tree trimming involves such jobs as cutting off suckers and removing any low-hanging branches. By the way, tree topping is no longer acceptable because it does promote the growth of suckers, as well as weaker branches at the top of the tree. If there is a bit of dead wood, that is removed so it doesn't cause problems in windy weather.

Weak growth might be eliminated so larger branches can grow stronger, and branches that are growing into the center of the tree will be cut in order to open the tree to air and light. Any limbs or branches that are growing near power lines must be trimmed immediately and kept trimmed by regularly scheduled tree pruning. Minor tree trimming is largely preventative and, if done often and properly, will help to keep a tree and its limbs healthy.

Preventative Minor Tree Trimming

One of the main reasons to schedule minor tree trimming is to keep problems from developing that might jeopardize the safety of people or the structural soundness of houses. If done in a timely fashion, minor trimming will reduce the need for major pruning before storm seasons. It will also keep a tree looking tidy and well-cared for as an important element in a yard that also has good landscape maintenance.

Because trees are major hazards in severe weather, they need close inspection by professionals who know what to look for. Telltale signs of stress and developing problems let the professional know to look carefully during this inspection and the next to see how things have progressed. If minor trimming can curtail the concern--perhaps fungus growing on a branch--then a much larger, serious issue will be prevented.
