Ways to Save Money on Lawn Care

There is nothing better than hiring a lawn care company to maintain your lush green lawn when you simply dont have the time or the desire to do so. However, when times get tight you may find it necessary to find ways to save on your lawn care costs. When this happens, how do you reduce the cost without reducing the quality of your lawn?

Short of doing the lawn yourself, there are several ways in which you can reduce your lawn care costs and still maintain a great looking lawn. Here are some ways to save on your lawn care expenses:

Reduce Your Lawn Service frequency: Many lawn care services will come out on a rather frequent basis especially when the weather is warm and the grass is growing on a regular basis. The problem is that many of these lawn services also charge you every time they come out. The only way this is not costing you money is if they have you on a monthly plan. Either way you can save on lawn care by scaling back the number of times that the lawn service comes out to your home. Instead of as frequently as needed, just have them come out once per month. This will require you maintaining your lawn for the rest of the month, but at least once a month you will be having a pro do it for you.

Shop Around: If you have had the same lawn care company for a while take some time to make a few phone calls and see what their competitors are charging. If you find that a number of them are more affordable, ask your current lawn care company if they will negotiate their price. If not, maybe you should consider another lawn care company.

Water Less: This is a no brainer is you have an irrigation system. Most irrigation systems go off according to a timer device so reset your timer to only allow the system to water half as much as before. If you water for a half hour, two times per day, only water for 15 minutes two time per day and so on. You will be surprised how much money you will save and how little your lawn is affected.

Make it a Family Affair: If you have teenagers you can kill two birds with one stone. Implement the first strategy and only have your lawn care company come out once a month and the rest of the time pay your teenagers to do the lawn work for you. The end result will be you saving money and getting your teenagers to do something in order to earn money rather than just taking it from you. If you do not have any teenagers, scour the neighborhood for some and you will more than likely find some willing participants.

While you may think that you cannot maintain a great looking lawn without a lot of maintenance, if you follow a regular schedule and never let the lawn get out of control, keeping up with it should be no big deal. As nice as it is to have that lawn care service come out every week, it is even nicer to have some extra cash in your pocket.
