Garden Streams

Garden streams are a wonderful way to add new dimension to your existing landscaping scheme. Ponds or streams add depth, variety, and extra life to an existing garden. Water also complements gardens very nicely, providing a reflective surface in which the colors of the plants and flowers can bounce and shimmer. Adding water to your garden amplifies the sensual experience, adding twice as much color, activity, and sound.

Most of us don't consider the sound element when we think of gardens, but it plays an important part in our perception and enjoyment. What do we hear when we spend time in the garden? We hear birds chirping, insects buzzing, and the little pops of twigs snapping as animals such as birds or squirrels make their way along the ground or through the trees. However, garden streams add the especially beautiful sound of moving water.

Calming Garden Streams

The sound of water has a definite calming effect on the human psyche. Think of the meditative and relaxation audiotapes that have been sold throughout the last decade. For people stressed out from their jobs and demanding personal schedules, these little aids have been important allies in the quest for personal sanity and quality of life. The millions of dollars spent on these tapes and CDs is proof of their popularity.

Today you can actually have the real thing in your backyard: an actual moving stream meandering through your garden. You can add rocks, waterfalls, and even brilliantly colored fish to your garden stream for even more variety and natural beauty. These additions can be made to your existing backyard scheme through either special do-it-yourself kits or professional installation.
