How to Grow Tidy Tips Wildflowers

Tidy Tips is a fast growing and undemanding California wildflower. Native to the Western U.S., Tidy Tips are great for naturalizing banks and roadways. It will look great in your flower bed, too.

Tidy Tips are spring blooming, daisy-like flowers. They are bright yellow, with white tips, and grow 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Flower stems are sturdy. These small plants grow 9" to 12" high.  Plants are drought resistant, and ask for little attention.

A Little Trivia: The Brits fell in love with Tidy Tips, and adopted them into their English Country Gardens.

Try growing Tidy Tips in rock gardens, flower beds, as a true wildflower, or even in containers on your balcony or deck.

Plant Propagation:

Tidy Tips are grown from seed. Tidy Tip seeds germinate in about 10-28 days, depending upon weather conditions. Sow seeds directly outdoors, early in the season, just before the last frost date in your area. Plant seeds just 1/8" deep, or broadcast spread them in the area you want them. With a little water, they will wash into the soil.

Final spacing of 6" will maximize plant growth.

These prolific seeders will re-seed themselves for years to come.

How to Grow Tidy Tip Plants:

Growing Tidy Tips are very easy to grow. They like full sun, and grow well in cool areas. They tolerate almost any soils, but should be well drained. Plants are drought resistant.

Once plants have sprouted, they will do well with little or no attention.

Once your Tidy Tip plants are established, they should grow well with few problems. They do not like wet soils. And, plants can suffer in high, mid summer heat.

For best growth, control grassy weeds.
