Wicked Plants at Urban Roots

wickedplants

Amy Stewart came by Urban Roots while on a nation-wide book tour to support her new book about the dark side of plants – botanical villains – menacing plants that have the power to puncture, imprison, poison, maim, intoxicate, paralyze, kill and wreak general havoc. Every gardener should have this book, unless you don’t care about your safety. And especially if you have enemies.

In preparation for her talk filled with odd stories of people and the power of botanicals, we brought in a range of plants which have varying degrees of nasty powers.  We still have a variety of these “Wicked Plants” on hand, many of them beautiful.

Amy’s delightfully creepy trailer for Wicked Plants, filled with stories and facts on some of nature’s most appalling creations. Click on the video image to see the short trailer.

Amy visited Buffalo’s Garden Walk and Urban Roots back in 2006 and wrote about our neighborhood in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Amy also mentioned Urban Roots in an article in Organic Gardening Magazine and on the Darwin Martin House for Conservatory Garden Design magazine.

Amy was hosted, in Buffalo, by Talking Leaves bookstore and Elizabeth Licata, Editor for Buffalo Spree Magazine.  Elizabeth and Amy both contribute to the online garden magazine, GardenRant.com.
