Caring For Live Oak Trees

Nature lovers and people with green thumbs swear by the beauty of landscape trees, especially Live Oaks, and also enjoy planting and caring for these trees. The branching patterns and graceful, evergreen appearance of the leaves adds the perfect decor element to a natural and open space. Finding or growing these lovely trees is not that difficult, however, just like other plants and trees these too need routine attention so they can thrive.

Before you purchase a large Live Oak Tree for sale be sure to find an experienced nursery instead of buying from a seller with little experience. The life and health of the tree is also affected by how well it was cared for during its early stages at the nursery. Once the oak is brought to the new grounds, keep the following checklist in mind to nurture the tree for optimum growth.

Regular irrigation:Live Oaks must be given an adequate supply of water on a daily basis, especially when they are just beginning to establish their roots. Just like a little baby, the newly planted tree has to be tended to with the utmost care. Water and nutrition are very crucial at this stage. So using nursery recommended manure or fertilizers are a great idea.

Pruning:Live Oaks trees can grow to be giants. So proper pruning techniques are a must. Pruning helps to keep the branches healthy and actively growing. If there is a branch that is becoming a leader that isn't the trunk it is important to remove it so the one trunk can take full control. For the first three years pruning should be done annually.

What to do if the leaves change color before fall:Clearly leaves change color and fall off as the season changes into fall. However, if your new oak has an unexpected change of color in the wrong season then consulting the nursery is the best thing to do.

Protection from pests and insects:Live Oaks can get infected with oak wilt disease and also suffer if you accidently use infected pruning tools. Not to mention the branches need to be carefully examined from time to time, the soil should be kept clean and the tree should be planted at a safe distance from buildings. For optimum growth it is best to plant them in partial shade and avoid pruning in the early months of summer so that insects won't be as attracted.

These wonderful trees can be great companions so proper attention and maintenance is critical. With the required care and love these trees can go on living a healthy life and can contribute to a healthier
