Adding Koi to pond with goldfish

Question

-------------------------

Thanks very much for your answer.  I now own a black Koi with a small amount of silver on his back.  He is almost 13 inches and doesn't seem interested in my goldfish.  He actually hides out under the plants and we don't see much of him.  I was told he is Japanese and he doesn't have scales.  If you know anything about this species I would appreciate hearing from you.  My pond is 2000+ and is beautiful now with the lilies and lotus blooming.  Also, should I get another Koi to go with him/her?

Thanks again,

Answer
The species is a koi.  As far as the variety, I'm not super familiar with the Japanese names for all the different types of koi.  I know there are scaleless koi and can't think of the Japanese word for that right now.  If I didn't have so much work to do on my web site and with other e-mails, I'd look into it for you.  It sounds like things are going well.  Koi do enjoy company so one more might be fine.  I have two koi in my 1800 gallon pond.  Since they grow so big, you don't want to get very many.  Good luck!
