Container Water Garden

Question
What kind of water would be used in a gallon or so containter for "floater" water plants such as lilies, water lettuce  I read an article in a magazine and would like to try it.  It gives me all the information except for the water preferred...Tap, distilled, bottled?

Answer
If your tap water is okay, you can use it.  How do you know if it's okay?  At the least, you'll want to buy aquarium test kits for pH and hardness to see what kind of water that you have.  You'll also have to buy some dechlorinator to add to the water to deactivate the chlorine.  These things will cost more at first but will save money over buying bottled water (which is usually just somebody else's tap water).  Distilled water has no ions or minerals so plants will not survive in it.  Good luck!
