happy pond

Question
Brigitte,

In my backyard, I have a 1,000 gallon pond that I'm very proud of haha.  I'm only 14, but my parents have no interest in it, so i'm the only one who takes care of it, they partially fund it haha.  I just wanted to know if you thought the mix of critters i had was okay:

9 Koi
Many goldfish (they've reproduced and I can't count them all)
4 red eared sliders, all females
3 frogs

In the center of the pond is a large, several tiered fountain that circulates the water, whcih drops straight off to 2 feet deep all around.  I have hiding places for all of the fish, heated rocks for the turtles, and i do daily water checks (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph).  There are also many waterplants in the pond, mainly lilies.  My water is always clear, for my filter seems to do its job.
Please tell me if you think my set up is good.

Thanks,
Richard

Answer
Hello Richard! Sounds like a very nice pond and it looks like you are doing just fine with it. The only thing I see a problem with down the road is the number of Koi. They will get very, very large and there probably will not be enough room (and filtration) for all of them when they mature. You may have to dig a bigger pond for them in two or three years or give some of them away.
