Pond Greenhouse

Question
We live in middle Alabama and my in ground pond is a plastic shell from Lowe's - 120 gallons - 22" deep.  We have a frame built around our pond with screen on top to keep out leaves and pecans this fall.  Can we cover this with plastic when it gets really cold and make a greenhouse to keep the pond from freezing.  I do plan on using a heater/de-icer of some sort.  We have 5 - 4" goldfish and a few babies that we have discovered, a fountain pump with a filter box - regular filter, bio filter and bio balls.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Nancy: That is exactly what you need to do... People who live in areas like Michigan... use plastic tents to keep their ponds and pond fish alive during the winter.... You can also move the filter to about 1 food below the surface so that it recycles the colder water on the top and not the slightly warmer water on the bottom... dave
