pond water temp

Question
I live in fl and our weather is ever changing from 80 deg
to 39 deg in 2 day -- I know that you should stop feeding your koi in the winter mo, but not sure what to do with our weather changes -- do you stop feeding at a water temp-
or will in not get cold enough in fl to be concerned
                                  thanks

Answer
Feed the Koi based on their activity levels.  If they are hanging at the bottom and being sluggish then feed them as though its winter... if they are roaming around like normal then feed them as though it is summer.  The reason for cutting back food in the winter is because the colder water keeps the fish inactive and the food rots... thus throwing off the ponds chemistry. If the fish are very active then feed them as you would normally because they should eat up the food before it rots....  Hope this helps... dave
