falling blossoms

Question
our bougainvillea had beautiful orange/pink blossoms -all of a sudden they are dropping very heavily.  I brought a sample to nursery where we bought it and they said i overwatered it.  Is this the answer?  I feel so bad about losing the bougainvillea.
Thank you.  Paula Nordwind

Answer
Hi Paula, and thanks for the question, Bougs are not water lovers, the less the better actually, the more stressed Bougs are, the better their color (strange as that seems). Your best bet is let nature take over, and it should adjust fine, the dropping of the bracts (they aren't flowers, the flower is the center, almost inconspicuous white button) should redevelop for you. Fertilizing them with a well balanced granular fertilizer should help, then just back of them and let them be. Nick
