I have a bird of paradise that has a white fungus looking thing on the leaves, what do I need to get rid of it?

Hi Jackie, sounds like a scale infestation, you need to apply a horticultural oil (organicide is one), just mix per directions and apply in the late afternoon, let it sit overnight and wash it, along with the dead scale off in the morning before the sun gets too high in the sky, otherwise you take the chance of burning the fronds, because the oil will absorb the heat.
