mushroom in soil of goldfish plant

Question
Hi,

I have a goldfish plant. I think it's a tropical plant but I'm not sure. I have it on a sunny windowsill in my apartment and have had it for almost 2 years now.

This morning I found a large (about an inch) white mushroom growing in the soil and it really freaked me out. I can't find much on the web in terms of why it grew or what I should do about. Can you help? I have a picture i can email as well.

Answer
Hi Maire, don't be freaked out..lol..this is common in soil that is wet and the surrounding environment on the darker side; its not going to effect your plant and it won't do any other harm, simply dig it up from its roots and discard. Cut back on your watering, for there could be more spores in the soil that could sprout; if it really bothers you, change out the medium and re plant. Nick:)
