Question
Two years ago, I was forced to take down a very mature maple due to crown die-back and damage from lightning.  It was the sole shade tree in front of the house.  I want to plant another shade tree but am not sure what the best would be.  I'd like it to grow relatively fast and prefer not to have to deal with little seedlings falling all over in the spring.  I love oaks.  Would that be a good choice?  What else might you recommend?  I live in Stoughton, Wisconsin.
