Transplanting liquid amber

Question
i need to move a liquid amber that is about four years old and ten slim feet tall. I've dug around it and got it moving the dirt ball around the bottom. But I'm sure there is some sort of tap root. Should I trim in down? Should I wait till another time of year? Should it face the same direction when moved. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
The best time to move the trees is from about Jan - March.
Yes they have a small tap root. You will need a root ball about 12 wide for every inch of trunk diameter and 6 inches deep for every inch of diameter. (a 4 inch tree will need a root ball of 48 inches across and 24 inches deep). You can prune the outer roots off. The new hole should be twice the size of the root ball and fill the excess space with good potting soil and mulch the area round the tree with not more than 4 icnhes deep of mulch. The direction it faces does not matter. Here is a web link to more information on transplanting trees.
