Sunburst Honey Locust Tree

Question
Hi,
I have a beautiful and full Sunburst Honey Locust Tree that is about 25 years old. Just today, the Electric Company sent two men to "trim" my tree away from the Electric lines. They took off quite a bit and I was wanting to know if this will harm my tree at all? Is there anything I should put on the branches that were cut to protect from insects, etc? I just don't want to lose this tree, it was so full and beautiful. Now the one side is pretty bare, with hardly any branches. They even cut the top of the tree down some. I am pretty upset. I hope you have some advice. Thank you!

Answer
If the branch stubs are not over 4 inches in diameter there is not need to put anything on them. If over 4 inch I would paint them with a latex paint a darker color will blend in better than a lighter one.
Honey locust will with stand heavy pruning better than most trees. About the only thing that can be done now is wait until next spring a try to shape up the tree as best you can.
I would fertilize it with 10-10-10 fertilizer at the  rate of 1 lb per inch of trunk diameter scattered around the tree and watered in good. this will help the root system generate new foliage.
