transplanting trees

Question
I live in central missouri and would likke to know if it is okay to transplant trees in march or wether I should wait till till april?

Answer
Robert,
The answer is simple - transplant as soon as possible. In fact, I wish you had done it yesterday! All kidding aside, trees prefer to be transplanted when they are fully dormant. When you start seeing new leaves on the tree, the best time to transplant has passed. You still have time, just don't delay. Even with evergreens, the best time to plant is before the sap starts to rise. Use good transplanting technique - and a SHARP shovel as this causes less root damage.
Good Luck, Doug Roberson
