Euonymus Alatus (Dwarf and Standard)

Question
Hi Edward. I have 3 standard size burning bushes about 3 feet high apiece. I am plaining on an early spring cut back next year to resize them to the new bushes I have just bought and already planted. (Will be a hedge). Heres the question....Three are standards that have already been in place. The new ones are the "Compacta"...I should have looked in my rush to purchase them I know but, I didn't. How bad will these different variaties clash in growth, leaf size, color etc, etc once they have grown up in height? The compactus seem larger in leaf and the existing standards are smaller in leaf and also a little lighter in color of green. Thank you for your time.....Steve

Answer
Steve,
The Compacta vaiety of the winged Euonymus is not compact at all. The common variety will reach 15 to 20 feet, while the compacta will reach 10 to 12 feet.
The major differences will be on how pronounced the corky wings along the branches beome. The compacta's will be less pronounced and they may become more dense in leaf growth.
After the new plants are established, you shouldn't see a big difference in the plants.
