golden euonymus

Question
I live in Bucks Co., PA  My Golden Euonymus shrubs are dying or dead.  The leaves turned white and fell off.  I also noticed these little black insects on the leaves that look like black ladybugs.  They have shiny black armour with possibly two red dots.  Can you identify these bugs and what do I need to kill them?

Answer
Chris,
The little balck beetles that you see are not the culprit for the die back. They are Lady Beetles a predatory insect that is feeding on the real culprit, Euonymus scale.
To control the scale, spray the plant with Horticultural oil at a 1% rate during the summer and a 2.5% rate in the fall.
Good luck.
