I would like to prune and root branches off of my red tips or photinia.When should I do this and how? I live in coastal South Carolina.

The best time to take cutings to root is after the first flush of new growth in the late spring- early summer, while they are still green. Use a rooting hormone for best results and use a well drained medium and mist.
