How to trim a Japanese Maple

This tree is aproximately 15 years old. It has never been trimmed and I have been asked to do so. I have no idea what to do or where to begin. Can you provide instructions?

I would start with any dead branches, then it would depend on what you are looking to do. Are you pruning to reduce the trees size or are you doing a general thinning.
