burning bush raising

Question
I planted a burning bush this last summer, but now I have to raise the garden around it.  If I add 3" of soil or more do I need to dig it up and replant or will it be ok with that extra dirt on it?  Also affected will be a couple of hostas, will these need to be moved?
I live in central Wisconsin.
Thank you.

Answer
Suzi,

Raising the plants would be the best thing to do since adding three more inches of topsoil and mulch on top of that could create root and crown rot problems in the future.

Try to dig the root ball as large as possible to save mpst of the feeder roots. When you have finished raising it, add a root stimulator to the soil to help with recovery.

Good luck.
