Hedge Roots

Question
I want to get rid of a hedge line but don't want to disturb my 2 (concreted in) washing poles.
Is it true that i can cut the stem abt 6in above ground, drill a hole down centre of stem and pour in salt to rot the roots.

Many thanks.

Answer
Hello Alan

A solution of epsom salts or rock salt could do the trick.  You can, in fact cut the stems down to the ground, drill several holes in the stem and pour the solution into each hole and cover the lot with soil.  I can't guarantee how long it will take to rot the roots - it will depend on how extensive they are.
