black roses

Question
Hello, i live in Philadelphia PA.  i would like to know if i am able to grow black roses, and where i can find them.
my next question is, what other colors do roses come in?

Answer
Hi, Jim--to date, there are no truly black roses.  There are some very dark reds; one in particular, 'Nearly Black', is about as dark as they come.  Check at www.findmyroses.com for a source.

Other colors?  White, pink, apricot, purple, orange, and even some that are tan or brownish.  There are all sorts of blends of the above colors.  Roses come in large bloom (hybrid tea), smaller (floribundas, mini-floras), miniatures and micro-minis.  There are also Old Garden Roses (like your great-grandmother grew) and standard, or tree roses in all of the above sizes.

For more information, visit the American Rose Society at www.ars.org.  There are lots of friendly folks on the rose forums at GardenWeb.com, and you can always reach me here!
