brown tipped rosebuds

Question
I have several hybird tea roses planted in my front and back yards.  I have two peace roses(pink and white), double delight, and tea party in my front yard and all are budding out with brown tip blooms.  They will go ahead and bloom out but I haven't gotten a pretty bloom yet.  They seem to also be dying off sooner than in the past years.  I leave in Western Ky (not sure of zone-live about 1 hr. south of Evansville, IN) and we have had a cool and wet spring.  I have each rose bush surrounded by a wood mulch.  I was wondering if this could be disease or if it is just from all of the rain.  I also have a tropicana rose bush in with these that is fine.  It just doesn't bloom a pretty bloom either.  Is that the rose bush or something I am doing wrong.  The blooms are spotty--with darker orange spots.

Answer
What you are describing is rose botrytis blight which is caused by fungus spores. When you get a cool, damp spring, the flower buds get too wet and a fungal disease called botrytis actually rots the flower petals
there can be round rust or red coloured spots on the petals. Fist take off any flower or buds that have this problem and then you can use any rose spray for Black Spot as this will kill the bacteria which keep it going. It really only happens when conditions are right as your spring was perfect for it. Mulch is good for roses and wouldn't have anything to do with this problem as it is caused by weather conditions alone. Your roses will go back to normal once you start getting warmer weather and hopefully you wont get another spring next year like this one.
