rose bugs

Question
Hello,I have some small brown bugs(lots of them) on my roses ,they are close to the flower(not on the leaves)and the buds; I tried the organic Dr Earth insect spray (it has garlic in it)but it didn't help it made the leaves brown.I am in the Pacific northwest area.Thank you

Answer
As you can probably appreciate, unless I have a photo of the bugs, I would be guessing what they are. However if the bugs are eating your flowers or your buds, they you will need a systemic type of spray that gets into the actual sap of the rose. When the bug bites it gets killed by the ingredients. I agree that using an organic type of spray is best, but many times they really are not lethal enough to get rid of some insects and this appears to be one of them. Just ask at th garden center for a systemic rose spray for insects. Then only concentrate the spray where the insects are. If you do it at sundown, the bees and most good insects won't be around.
