Rose near Swimming Pool

Question
I have planted 3 standart roses near our swimming pool and when it rains the pool overflows over where the roses are planted.  One rose has died and the other 2 are very sick, would the salt & chlorine from the pool spoil the soil?  I live in Queensland Australia.  Can I transplant my roses now or wait until winter?  Thank You.

Answer
Roses are fairly tolerant but salt and chlorine can be used as weed killers. So you can see that the roots have responded mainly to the chlorine and the salt would also cause them to go under stress. Because the roses are dying, I would take off all the leaves to put them into a state or dormancy, trim off all the dead growth , have the new hole ready and quickly plant them. This procedure has worked well with the bush roses but I have not done it with standards. But they will die if not moved so it would be wise to take the chance. Good luck.
