trans planting

Question
QUESTION: we trans planted 100 knockouts  and in about two weeks  they are turning yellow leaf and look trouble   Help!!!

ANSWER: Your roses will not die but there are about 100 reasons whey they are turning yellow. To give you a correct answer I will need more information such as. Where do you garden because the weather plays a large part when you plant a rose. Did you put anything in the hole such as some fertilizer. Did you use a spray as Knock Out seem to re-act negatively to any type of spraying. Were the roses bare root or in pots. Did you cut them back when you
transplanted them because rose roots always go under stress when moved. The answer to these questions will give me a much better picture of what went wrong. And maybe nothing went wrong the roses just didn't like being moved.

QUESTION: these were purchased in  small pot from a grower , they have been in a heated greenhouse since trans planting. they looked very good before trans planting , we did fert with a 20-10-20 lightly, leaves are turning brown and yellow   Thanks Ed

Answer
The rose roots have gone under stress because they were not hardened off before transplanting which is a common mistake gardeners make. Don't give them anymore fertilizer as the roots have gone dormant and will not be able to take it up. They will also have a problem taking water up too so you will have to make sure that the soil is always damp near the roots damp but not wet. Then in a few weeks they will perk up and you can stop the daily watering. Again no fertilizer until they start to bloom and then that is the best time for optimum effect. Again the roses will not die, they will just sulk for a couple of weeks. Hopefully you will not get any hot weather before they perk up.
