overwatered potted rose

Question
I have a rose I keep on my deck in a pot. I went out of town for a few days, and when I got back it had rained so much my rose was sitting im mudd. All of the foilage has died and nothing but one green steem is left. Can I save my rose?

Answer
Hi Melony,

If you can, remove the saucer or make sure all the water is gone from inside the pot.  Let the pot sit in full sun all day long until you are sure it has dried out completely.  Once it puts back out, let cold weather make it go dormant and then replant in a better draining pot or put some gravel in the bottom of the pot to allow for heavy rains.

Hope that helps,

Jay
