Non-flowering hydrangea

Question
I have two hydrangea bushes in my backyard.  They get morning to mid-afternoon sun.  They are very healthy plants, about 3 feet high.  However, they never form blooms.  I don't think it's the soil that's the problem because we have three hydrangeas in the front of our house and they bloom beautifully.  I did cut them down last fall after the frost.  Could that be it?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
Hi Jeanne,
Thanx for your question.  If you cut the hydrangeas down last fall you also cut away new growth that was being set for the following season's blooms.  When pruning, don't prune too severely or you won't get blooms.  Just prune enough to tidy up the bush and remove all dead wood.  That should do the trick.  I hope this helps.
Tom
