euonymous variegated green and white

Question
Hi,
Does this plant need an acid  fertilizer, such as Miracid?

    Thank you,            Karen

Answer
These evergreens more than Miracid or fertilizer need an Acid Soil.  That's different from Miracid, which contains fertilizer Salts and promotes growth of Fungi and other pathogens by wiping out the bioflora and fauna -- naturally occurring disease controls in your Soil.

Topdress your evergreens with Peat Moss and an Acid Compost.  You'll get better results that way.  Endomycorrhizae multiply the power of the roots to draw in nutrients and moisture.  You don't want to ruin that with chemical fertilizers.

Variegated evergreens need just as strong an Acidity as their non-variegated brothers and sisters.  But lower the pH the right way.  You can balance out a high pH by watering now and then with a strong, vinegary solution: 5 capfuls of white Vinegar in a quart of water will bring the pH down to a brisk and buoyant 5.0 to 5.5.  See how that works.

Thanks for writing.
